Riders on the Dubai Metro and Tram can now carry certain foldable e-scooters.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority announced the change in an official post on X.
Allowed e-scooters must not have a seat, weigh no more than 20 kg, and fit within the size specifications of 120 cm x 70 cm x 40 cm. Riders must also adhere to the following rules:
- No charging of e-scooters in Dubai Metro or Tram premises.
- Do not block or obstruct doors, seats, aisles, or emergency equipment.
- Wet or dirty e-scooters are not allowed in Metro or Tram premises.
- Riding e-scooters is prohibited in stations and footbridges.
- E-scooters must be folded when entering stations, platforms, or onboard trains or trams.
- Turn off e-scooter power at all times while on Metro or Tram premises.
- Protruding parts that could cause injury or damage, such as handlebars and bicycle pedals, must be covered or retracted.
- Commuters are responsible for the safe transport of their e-scooters.
- E-scooters must be folded and use wide gates when checking in or out at Metro stations.
- Always be aware of your e-scooter and adhere to the rules.
- Damaged batteries are not allowed.
- Dual batteries are prohibited.
- Emission of environmental contaminants is not permitted.
- Batteries must comply with international standards (e.g., UL, IEC).
The RTA previously banned commuters from carrying e-scooters on the Metro and Tram in March, citing safety reasons.
