Six US military members killed since start of Iran war: CENTCOM

A total of six US military personnel have been killed since the start of the Iran war, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Monday, raising the death toll from four.

“US forces recently recovered the remains of two previously unaccounted for service members from a facility that was struck during Iran’s initial attacks in the region,” CENTCOM said in a post on X.

The U.S. and Israeli air campaign against Iran widened on Monday, with no end in sight. Israel struck targets in Lebanon in response to attacks by Hezbollah, while Iran continued assaults on Gulf states hosting U.S. military bases.

U.S. President Donald Trump said the operation could continue for weeks and expressed uncertainty over Iran’s leadership following the targeted killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the opening hours of the U.S.-Israel campaign.

The conflict has plunged the Gulf into full-scale war, killed scores of civilians across Iran, Israel, and Lebanon, disrupted global air travel, and halted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key artery for one-fifth of the world’s oil trade, sending oil prices surging.

Highlighting the risks, CENTCOM said Kuwait mistakenly shot down three American F-15E fighter jets during an Iranian attack. All six crew members ejected safely and were recovered.

The U.S. military said it has struck more than 1,250 targets in Iran and destroyed 11 Iranian ships, underscoring the scale and intensity of the ongoing conflict.
