How Sindh’s neonatal center is changing child healthcare in Pakistan

Pakistan faces one of the highest neonatal mortality rates in the world, with around 53 newborns dying per 1,000 live births – placing the country among the top three globally.

Every day, nearly 700 newborns lose their lives, many from causes that are preventable. Alarmingly, most of these deaths occur within the first 24 to 72 hours of life. Weak health systems, limited access to specialized care, and delayed interventions continue to claim innocent lives.

In Sindh, the Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology (SICHN) is working to change this grim reality. Established by the Government of Sindh and managed by an independent board, SICHN provides state-of-the-art pediatric and neonatal care free of cost.
