Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip killed at least 13 people on Friday, including police officers and civilians, according to Gaza’s civil defence agency, as violence continued despite a months-old ceasefire.
The dead included eight people killed when an airstrike hit a police vehicle in the Al-Mawasi area near the southern city of Khan Younis, the agency said. Among the victims was a child, and several others were wounded.
Gaza’s interior ministry said two of those killed in the strike were police officers.
Separate strikes hit north and Gaza City
In northern Gaza, artillery fire struck residential homes near Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, killing a woman and her two children, the agency said.
Another strike in Gaza City targeted a police patrol, killing two people and injuring two others, according to the interior ministry, which identified the dead as police officers.
Hospitals in Gaza, including Al-Shifa and Nasser, confirmed the casualties and released the names of 12 of the 13 victims. The identity of a 12-year-old among the dead was not immediately confirmed.
Israeli military cites Hamas threat
The Israeli military said in a statement that its forces had identified “armed Hamas terrorists” operating near troops in northern Gaza and carried out an الجوية strike to remove the threat.
It did not directly address the reported strikes on police units or residential areas.
Civilians mourn as violence continues
At Al-Shifa Hospital, relatives gathered in grief. “The war never stopped … this is not fair,” said Mohammed al-Qassas, whose brother was among the dead.
In Khan Younis, witnesses described crowds gathering around the charred remains of a vehicle hit in the strike, located in a tent camp for displaced people.
Hamas condemned the attacks as “barbaric” and accused the international community of failing to act.
Ceasefire under pressure
Gaza’s health ministry says at least 792 Palestinians have been killed since the truce took effect. Israel’s military says five of its soldiers have died in the same period.
