Pakistan’s federal cabinet on Wednesday was briefed on plans to introduce new designs for the country’s banknotes and approved the formation of a committee to review the proposals.

The Cabinet was informed by the Ministry of Finance about the State Bank of Pakistan’s initiative to modernize banknotes, with input from international design and security experts. The proposed redesigns cover PKR100, PKR500, PKR1,000, and PKR5,000 notes and are expected to incorporate enhanced security features, including upgraded security threads.

According to the briefing, the new currency notes will reflect Pakistan’s regional and geographical diversity, highlight historical landmarks, and feature key social themes, such as women’s contribution to national development and climate change awareness.

The Cabinet approved the creation of a special Cabinet Committee to further review and deliberate on the proposed currency designs before their formal introduction.

In other business, the Cabinet considered the draft Private Hajj Policy 2027-2030, aimed at regulating third-party registration and oversight of private Hajj operators. Based on members’ feedback, the draft was referred back to the Hajj Policy Committee for further evaluation.

The Cabinet also ratified previous decisions of the Cabinet Committee on Energy, taken at its December 24, 2025 meeting, as well as decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) from December 23, 2025.
