Pakistan’s IT exports soar to all-time high of over $400 million in Dec

Pakistan’s information technology sector posted its highest-ever monthly exports in December, surpassing $400 million for the first time, according to central bank data.

IT exports rose to $437 million in December, up from $348 million in the same month a year earlier, marking a 25% year-on-year increase, the State Bank of Pakistan said.

Exports were also more than 22% higher than the $356 million recorded in November.

The previous monthly record was $386 million, achieved in October.

An IT exporter said consistent government policies have helped sustain export growth and are expected to support further expansion through joint efforts by the public and private sectors.

He said IT companies are exploring new markets, particularly in Gulf countries, while boosting exports of emerging technologies in traditional markets to increase overall volumes.

He added that the current momentum is likely to translate into additional growth in the coming months.

During the first half of the financial year, IT exports climbed to $2.23 billion, compared with $1.86 billion in the same period from July to December last year, reflecting a 19.5% increase.

With six months remaining in the financial year, IT exports could reach between $4.2 billion and $4.5 billion if the current pace continues, industry representatives said.
