Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar’s family home still stands in Peshawar.

Nukta’s correspondent Kamran Ali reports from the historic Mohalla Khudadad, where the legendary actor was born in 1922 as Yousaf Khan. He spent his early childhood in Peshawar before migrating with his family to India, a journey that would eventually take him to Bombay and into cinema history as the “Tragedy King” of the subcontinent.

Classic films such as Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam, and Naya Daur cemented his iconic status. Built by his father in the early 20th century, the house reflects Peshawar’s traditional architecture, featuring intricate wooden craftsmanship and Central Asian influences.

Declared a national heritage site in 2014, it fell into neglect for years. Now, with support from the World Bank, restoration work is underway, and the house is expected to reopen as a museum preserving his legacy for future generations.
