Kremlin says it is in constant touch with Iranian leaders

Russia is constantly in touch with the Iranian leadership and willing to contribute to efforts to stabilize the region, the Kremlin said on Wednesday.

“Here I can only say that we are in constant contact with the Iranian side and with the Iranian leadership,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

“As President (Vladimir) Putin has said, Russia is always ready to do what it can to restore peace and stability in the region.”

Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov have spoken with their Iranian counterparts in recent days, while Putin also held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday.

Separately, Russia has denied allegations that it shared intelligence with Iran about U.S. military assets in the Middle East. The claim was addressed by U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff during an interview with CNBC on Tuesday.

Witkoff said the issue came up during Monday’s phone call between Trump and Putin, where Russian officials rejected the accusations.

The allegations followed a report by The Washington Post last week claiming that Moscow had provided Tehran with targeting information, including the locations of U.S. warships and aircraft operating in the region.

“Yesterday on the call with the president, the Russians said that they have not been sharing,” Witkoff said when asked whether Washington believed Russia had passed such intelligence to Iran.

“We can take them at their word. But they did say that. And yesterday morning, independently, Jared and I had a call with Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov, who reiterated the same,” he added.

Witkoff noted that intelligence agencies would ultimately be responsible for verifying the claim. “That’s a better question for the intel people, but let’s hope that they’re not sharing.”
