Strait of Hormuz disruption exposes global oil dependence

Rising tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran have disrupted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for nearly 20% of global seaborne oil.

Gulf exporters such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq dominate supply, but demand is led by Asia, with China accounting for about 38% of imports, followed by India, Japan and South Korea, highlighting who stands to lose most from prolonged disruption.
