Will Pakistan compromise again? ICC meeting to decide Champions Trophy’s fate

The long-standing impasse over the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy hosting is edging closer to resolution, with a crucial ICC board meeting scheduled for November 29.

The virtual meeting will involve 16 ICC stakeholders, including 12 full members, three associate members, and ICC Chair Greg Barclay, who will vote on the tournament’s future.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, in a Lahore press conference on Thursday, stressed parity, saying, “Pakistan playing in India while they refuse to reciprocate is unacceptable.”

According to media reports, Pakistan might only consider a hybrid model if similar conditions are applied to India’s hosting of ICC events.

India is slated to host several major ICC tournaments in the current cycle, including the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup (with Sri Lanka), the 2029 Champions Trophy, and the 2031 ODI World Cup (with Bangladesh).
